International Day of Peace 2026 & International Day of Sign Languages 2026
21 September 2026 - International Day of Peace
Theme: Invest in Peace - For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day
23 September 2026 - International Day of Sign Languages
Theme: Declaring Deaf People's Human Rights
The close connection between these two international observances reminds us of a powerful truth: peace and inclusion go hand in hand.
In a world facing division, conflict, and uncertainty, we are often tempted to believe that force, violence, insults, wars, or retaliation can solve disagreements. History repeatedly shows the opposite. Conflicts do not need to end in bloodshed, fighting, war, or emotional wounds. Physical injuries and scars of the soul do not heal divisions; they often deepen them.
At the same time, it is important to understand that peace does not mean the absence of conflict. Differences of opinion, disagreements, and tensions are a natural part of human relationships. Families, communities, organizations, and nations will always face challenges and conflicts. The true measure of peace is not whether conflicts exist, but how we choose to respond to them.
Peace is built when dialogue replaces violence, when understanding overcomes prejudice, and when people choose respect over hostility. It is built every day through acts of kindness, cooperation, justice, and inclusion.
The 2026 International Day of Peace theme, "Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day," recognizes the everyday architects of peace: ordinary people who create extraordinary change through their actions. Peace is not created only in government buildings or international conferences. It is created in homes, schools, workplaces, places of worship, and communities.
This message aligns perfectly with the 2026 International Day of Sign Languages theme, "Declaring Deaf People's Human Rights." True peace cannot exist where rights are denied, voices are silenced, or communication barriers exclude people from society.
Recognizing, protecting, and promoting sign languages is an investment in human dignity, equality, and social harmony. When deaf people have full access to education, information, services, and participation through national sign languages, communities become stronger, fairer, and more peaceful.
As we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and 20 years since the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), we are reminded that peace grows when human rights are respected for all.
A Shared Message for 2026
- Conflict is inevitable, but violence is not.
- Peace is not the absence of disagreement; it is the presence of respect, dialogue, and justice.
- Human rights are the foundation of lasting peace.
- Sign languages promote inclusion, understanding, and equal participation.
- Every person can become an architect of peace through their words, actions, and attitudes.
Invest in Peace. Listen with respect. Communicate with inclusion. Protect human rights. Build a world where conflicts are resolved through dialogue rather than violence, and where every voice, including those expressed through sign language, is heard and valued.
Peace for everyone. Everywhere. Every day.
🌍🤟 PEACE HAS MANY VOICES

White salted popcorn. Red sweet popcorn.
Different colours. Different flavours. Different journeys.
Yet both are delicious.
People are the same.
Different languages. Different cultures. Different ways of communicating.
Some speak. Some sign.
Differences should never become reasons for conflict.
Peace is not the absence of differences. Peace is learning to live, communicate and grow together.
Choose dialogue instead of violence. Choose understanding instead of prejudice. Choose peace every day.
